Looking to buy a home?

You have saved up, but you’re not sure where to begin? Here’s how you can get started finding a home that’s right for you.

The process

Step one: Envision it! You want to be a homeowner and you are determined to make this dream a reality! You know there will be bumps in the road, but you have the resiliency to get this done!

Step two: Make a list of your must-have characteristics in a home, then narrow it down by determining which ones are your highest priority. The structure aside, also consider neighborhoods and proximity to schools and work if that’s an important factor in your decision-making.

Step three: Meet with a Red Knot Real Estate licensee to talk about your price range and what qualities you are looking for in a home. The details here are important so that our licensees think of you when new listings come on the market that fit your criteria. During this meeting the licensee will also explain what the buying process typically looks like from getting a house under contract for purchase to keys in your hand.

Step four: Speak with a mortgage loan originator. The loan originator will look at your debt-to-income ratio to help you determine a comfortable purchase price and a loan type that suits you. Part of this step also includes getting a pre-approval letter from the lender. This pre-approval for a loan will strengthen any offer you make to buy a home. If you need help choosing a loan originator, a Red Knot licensee can recommend a few to choose from.

Step 5: Now it’s now time to start viewing homes! And when you find one that you like, you can make an offer to purchase with the expert guidance of a Red Knot Real Estate licensee.
